Mycoplasma bovis - eradicated?

Writer's picture: VAWAVAWA

Updated: Oct 4, 2022

The Science Media Centre reached out to VAWA for comment regarding the news that there was only one farm left in Aotearoa with confirmed Mycoplasma bovis, and RNZ's Rural News spoke with us too.

VAWA offered its congratulations to the team moving towards eradication of Mycoplasma bovis - an enormous and difficult task, with so many layers of complexity.

"It’s important to acknowledge also, the extreme distress, and the emotional and financial challenges that have been part of this eradication, and the loss of many animals for a greater cause. On an individual level, that is extremely difficult to reconcile and accept, and our thoughts should remain with those affected."

Congratulations (and fingers crossed for that last farm!)! #team #animalwelfare #eradication
